Germantown Ave. for the week of October 29

Work looks to become more serious and disruptive starting this week. Items most effecting LTSP are in bold.

PARKING ON GERMANTOWN AVENUE: Tree work will continue near the Seminary, and there will be no parking signs in the area between Allens Lane and Gowen Avenue. There are parking restrictions between Roumfort and McPherson -- see below. In addition, the work from Nippon to Allens Lane (described below) will include no parking signs in that area for night-time parking. Please read specific no parking signs for detailed information about when those restrictions go into effect.

WORK PLANNED FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 29TH AND FOLLOWING:

Crews will continue work on the high pressure gas main from the SEPTA turnaround at Cresheim Valley Drive to the Trolley Car Diner;
Installation of low pressure gas line from Winston Road to Mermaid Lane, with lane shifts at intersections;
Installation of iron water main from Roumfort Road to McPherson Street, with east lane shoulder closure;
Tree trimming at Lutheran Seminary -- parking restrictions in effect;
Beginning Wednesday, October 31st, iron water main installation at night from Nippon Street to Allens Lane on the west side of the street -- parking restrictions in effect.

The paving over of the west side curb line near the Trolley Car Diner and New Covenant Campus has been postponed up to now, but will be done at some point in the next two weeks. After that, a traffic barrier will be added, segmenting two traffic lanes on the west side of Germantown Avenue. Work will be continuous on the east side. As of January 15, 2008, sections of Germantown Avenue will be closed completely.

IMPACT ON BUSINESSES AND THE SAVE THE AVENUE WEBSITE: As you can imagine, this construction is having, and will continue to have, a negative effect on Germantown Avenue businesses. Please make a special effort to support our business district by patronizing businesses on or near the Avenue now and throughout the construction period. Visit the Save the Avenue website, www.savetheave.org, for updated information, including how you can support our merchants. PLEASE MAKE A SPECIAL EFFORT TO SUPPORT OUR MERCHANTS ON MT. AIRY FIRST FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND.
