Avenue Construction Update for the week of October 15

PARKING ON GERMANTOWN AVENUE: Tree work will continue into next week, so there will still be no parking signs. Please note that PARKING RESTRICTIONS WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND IN THE EVENINGS.

WORK PLANNED FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 15th AND FOLLOWING: Crews will continue to work on the high pressure gas line in the area of Mermaid Land and the railroad bridge over Germantown Avenue, although there will be no work tomorrow, Saturday. There will be flagging and lane closures. This work will be completed before October 22nd.

Likely on Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be work done across the intersection at Cresheim Valley Drive. This work will be done between 9 am and 3 pm to avoid rush hour traffic. Again, lane closures and flagging.

As noted above, tree work will continue, beginning at the New Covenant Campus and moving south. The crews will work down the west side of the Avenue and then back up the east side, removing trunks and stumps. Soon -- likely next week -- crews will pave over the west side curb line where there are cobblestones to create a safer driving surface: this will follow the tree work. Access to the Trolley Car Diner and New Covenant Campus will be maintained at all times. Expect lane shifts.

There will also be video inspections between Gowen Avenue and the Trolley Car Diner. Finally, there will be saw cutting for water main repair in the vicinity of McPherson Street. Again, expect some rerouting of traffic.

IMPACT ON BUSINESSES AND THE SAVE THE AVENUE WEBSITE: As you can imagine, this construction is having a very negative effect on Germantown Avenue businesses. Please make a special effort to support our business district by patronizing businesses on or near the Avenue now and throughout the construction period. Visit the Save the Avenue Website, www.savetheave.org, for updated information, including how you can support our merchants.
