Germantown Av. Construction Update 12/29/07-1/6/08

Utility work has continued along the avenue during break, and will continue through the next week. Here are details:

This week, the contractor is working to install low pressure gas mains from Roumfort Road to Gowen Avenue. This work will result in sidewalk closures along the east side of the avenue as well as lane shifts while crossing Roumfort Road.

The contractor will continue to work Saturday (12/29) from 7am to 3:30 pm. In observance of the New Year's Holiday, work will not resume until Wednesday 1/2/08. Crews will again work from Wednesday to Friday (1/5) from 7am to 5pm and Saturday (1/6) 7am to 3:30pm. Crews will continue the sewer line installation behind the construction barrier from the Cresheim Creek Bridge to Woodbrook Lane on the east side of Germantown Avenue. Crews will continue the installation of the water main on the west side of the avenue at the intersection of Gowen Ave. The contractor will continue the water main installation on the east side of the avenue from Nippon Street to Allens Lane in front of campus. This work will result in shoulder and sidewalk closures along with lane shifts while maintaining two lanes open to traffic. Construction crews will continue to work along the Cresheim Valley Creek in preparation of the bridge rehabilitation. This work will not affect pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

One travel lane will remain open in each direction on Germantown Avenue during construction, but motorists will encounter traffic pattern shifts. Parking along Germantown Avenue will be restricted in areas where crews are working.

GERMANTOWN AVENUE CLOSURES SET TO BEGIN IN MID-JANUARY
We have been told that so far, it is expected that complete closures of sections of Germantown Avenue will begin as planned. This work will begin at the Cresheim Valley (northern) end of the construction zone. We will be keeping you informed of actual closures on the avenue, scheduled to begin mid-January.

Germantown Av. Construction 12/15-12/28/07

Germantown Avenue construction work will continue through the remainder of 2007, including work directly effecting campus. Here is the planned work the next 2 weeks:

Saturday work (December 15): There will be work going on Saturday, December 15 between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm at the intersection of Gowen and Germantown, and along the Lutheran Seminary. There will be two way traffic and Gowen Avenue will not be closed to traffic. This is the last weekend work before the new year.

Weekday work (December 17-28): During the next two weeks, work will continue under the bridge just south of the intersection with Cresheim Valley Drive, in front of the Diner and behind the barrier up through Roumfort Road, at the Gowen Avenue intersection and across from the Wawa (in front of campus) -- in other words, nearly the length of the project work area. Basically, this is a continuation of this past week's work, and it will continue to the end of the year.

You can expect re-routed traffic along Germantown Avenue, but there will be no detours or road closures.

There will likely be night work on the water lines, and affected neighbors will be notified directly.

Germantown Ave. Construction for the week of 12/10/07

Construction on both sides of the Avenue near campus may cause some disruption/delays, but traffic lanes will be maintained on Germantown and East Gowan Avenues. Here are the details:

WORK PLANNED FOR NEXT WEEK:
West side work near intersection with Gowen Avenue: From Monday until Wednesday, there will be only local traffic on West Gowen Avenue, as water main work continues at that intersection. Businesses at that intersection will be accessible. Affected residents will be notified directly.

Work Behind the Barrier: There will be continued work behind the barrier between Roumfort and McPherson. Again, two way traffic will be maintained. It is possible that McPherson and Roumfort will be closed to all but local traffic for some of the time this work is going on, but both streets will not be closed at the same time. Residents of those streets will be notified directly.

Gas tie-ins in area from Wawa to Valley Green Bank: Next week, gas mains will be tied in in the area of Mr. Peepers Optical and Valley Green Bank. Again, access to businesses will be maintained.

Water main work between East Mt. Airy Avenue and Lutheran Seminary: Beginning Tuesday the 11th, there will be water main work being done on the east side of the Avenue in this area. Traffic will be able to get through. This aspect of the project will be underway for 2-3 weeks.

Work near intersection, Mermaid Lane and Germantown Avenue: Crews will be working next week to tie in gas lines at Mermaid and Germantown Avenue. There will be flaggers and lane shifts.

Presently, there is no night work scheduled, with the possible exception of the Water Department reconnecting water lines after midnight. In this case, affected neighbors are notified directly. There is no work scheduled for Saturday, December 8th.
